StampMind #48 ยท Nov 1, 2026

Victoria's first stamps appeared on 9 January 1850, only nine days after those of New South Wales. They were engraved and lithographed in Melbourne by Thomas Ham and show a half-length portrait of the young Queen seated with orb and sceptre, which is why collectors know them as the Half-Lengths. The 1d, like this one, was printed in shades of red.
