Russia’s 2020 Kurilian Bobtail stamp celebrates a remarkable cat breed that developed naturally on the remote Kuril Islands between Russia and Japan. Known for its distinctive pom-pom tail, powerful hind legs, and exceptional hunting ability, the Kurilian Bobtail adapted to the islands’ rugged volcanic landscape and harsh climate. The 50-ruble stamp was part of Russia’s 2020 “Fauna of Russia: Cats” series honoring native and popular Russian cat breeds.
