StampMind #46 · Oct 30, 2026

Iraq's first stamps appeared in 1923: twelve values in eight designs by two women artists, Edith Cheesman and Marjorie Maynard, mixing ancient monuments with everyday river and desert scenes. This 3-anna value shows the ruined palace arch at Ctesiphon, built by Persia's Sasanian kings about 1,500 years ago and, at some 37 metres high and 26 across, the largest free-standing brick vault raised until modern times.
